Take Root South Florida

Getting Started

Is homeownership right for you?  You first want to start by contacting a HUD-approved new homebuyer education agency.  They can be a great resource in helping you navigate the home buying process and may be able to help you find additional money, such as second mortgage or downpayment assistance.

Questions you will have to consider include:

  • Do I have a steady source of income and employment?
  • Can I take on the responsibility of homeownership?
  • What neighborhood would I like to live in?
  • What kind of home do I want or need?
  • How do I choose a real estate agent?
  • Can I afford a loan?
  • Am I income-qualified for any special homeownership programs like down payment assistance, tax credits or Neighborhood Stabilization Programs?
